What is Dark Web?

Have you ever heard of Dark Web or Deep Web or Hidden Web or Invisible Web?

Don’t Worry I will guide you through this hidden part of the internet and by the end of this post you will know everything.
The Internet is divided into two parts i.e The Clear Web and  The Deep Web . So let’s start from the basic and first understand What is Clear Web?

The Clear Web

Clear Web also called as Surface Web is the normal internet which you use in your day to day life like checking Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, sending mails on Gmail, Buying things from Flipkart and Amazon etc. Basically every website that general search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) can find are under Clear Net.

Now we will understand another part of internet which is called as Deep Web.

The Deep Web

Deep web also called as Invisible web or Hidden web is that part of internet whose contents are not indexed by  general search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing). This means anything behind a paywall, anything that is password protected, or anything that is dynamically generated on the fly and doesn’t have a permanent URL — all of these things are said to comprise the deep web because they don’t exist at the surface of the web. The deep web is also where masses of raw data is stored, whether government resources, data for use by scientists, or in the form of databases that you can use for your own research.
Infact when compared, 96% of the internet content is under Deep Web and only 4% is directly accessible to you through search engines i.e on Surface Web.

But wait.. there’s an even deeper level to the deep web…

Dark web

The Dark Web

Dark web is a sub-set of the Deep Web that contains all sorts of websites, both legal and illegal. The dark web exists on darknets, which are “overlay networks”. They’re build on top of the normal Internet, but they require special software to access, so they aren’t normally visible or accessible to common people. The types of sites include black markets that sell things like stolen credit cards, lists of social security numbers , forged documents, counterfeit currency, weapons, and drugs. You will also have hacking sites, porn sites, bitcoin tumbling, gambling websites and directories of criminal services and even sites for hitmen. One of the most widely known examples of a dark website is Silk Road, a huge black market website where drugs are offered for sale, with payments made in Bitcoin and drugs mailed to buyers through the postal system.

There are 3 ways to access the dark web, through Tor network, I2P (Invisible Internet Project) and Freenet. TOR network with the TOR browser bundle is widely used to access dark web.
